The Public Prosecution Department is an integral part of the judicial system of Ras Al Khaimah, and has come a long way in establishing the principles of justice and providing legal protection for all residents of the emirate. After it was an integral part of RAK Courts Department, H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah - may God protect him - issued the Emiri Decree No. 2 of 2012 to establish an independent Public Prosecution Department.

The continuous development has become a distinctive attribute of the Public Prosecution Department since it undertook protecting the legal rights and freedoms of the community, and acting as the only competent judicial authority to initiate and prosecute criminal cases with absolute non-restricted authority except in certain conditions established by the law.

The members of the Public Prosecution Department are independent and can not be removed and they work on behalf of the Attorney General as an advocate for the community to regain their rights from offenders through filing of criminal cases, and has the exclusive right to file a criminal case and track its processing until a final judgment is rendered, and its authority includes the investigation and prosecution in all crimes committed in the emirate regardless of their nature.

The Public Prosecution Department is committed to the performance of their work by standards of integrity and transparency, and relies in its work on simplifying the procedures and its speedy action in achieving criminal justice and bringing convicted criminals to trial to receive the appropriate punishment.

The Public Prosecution Department undertakes the judicial assistance issues regarding the extradition of criminals and its follow-up in accordance with the international conventions in cooperation with the International Criminal Police so as the criminal can't escape from one country to another, to achieve judicial justice and safeguard peoples' rights.

The Public Prosecution Department received great attention from H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of the Judicial Council - may God protect him - as he directed to the importance of facilitating the procedures and achieving the highest degrees of accuracy in the easiest and quickest ways without incurring litigants the trouble of routine procedures in order to realize the directions of H.H the ruler - may God protect him - thus came the development of the Public Prosecution Department and expanding its scopes on the level of technical and geographical specialization to be formed as follows:

•    Attorney General's Technical Office

•    General Prosecution

•    Appeal Prosecution

•    Cassation Prosecution

•    Family and Juvenile Prosecution

•    Naturalization & Residency Prosecution

•    Drugs Prosecution

•    Public Funds Prosecution

•    Traffic Prosecution

Each of these specialized prosecution offices has a role defined by the Attorney General's instructions.

At the level of geographic expansion, the two prosecution offices of Al Rams and Al Mamoura were established to proceed each with their geographical jurisdiction to facilitate procedures for litigants.

The development did not stop at this point, but included enhancing the duration of services, thus a new prosecution office was established which starts its work at the courthouse in the period from 3 PM until 10 PM.

Under the guidance of H.H. the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and his Crown Prince, Chairman of the Judicial Council, and due to the keenness of HE the Attorney General that the department keep up with the march of institutional excellence for government departments in the emirate and the country, and with the support of Sheikh Saqr Program for Government Excellence, which is entrusted with the development of the government sector in the emirate in all its strategic, operational, organizational and human aspects and levels, and a desire to create an environment that encourages creativity and innovation, the department put in place in 2014 a set of methodologies through the leaders and members of the institutional excellence team based on five criteria which are leadership, strategy, human resources, partnership, processes and services.

In order to keep up with technological developments, the Website of the Department of Public Prosecution was launched to allow for all segments of society to obtain services without the trouble of moving to the headquarters of the prosecution department in order to save their time and effort, and the website team is working on the development and expansion of the scope of those services constantly for the benefit of the users.
