The idea of establishing the Electronic Government Authority of Ras Al Khaimah was born in 2004 based on the aspirations of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al-Qassimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, to transform Ras Al Khaimah society to an online community in all its aspects, through the application of the latest technologies and integrated solutions and the use of comprehensive systems available for automating the work of all processes and systems of governmental IT and telecommunications departments (ICT), the creation of the necessary technical infrastructure, and moving towards leadership in e-government including its information technology, telecommunications, service, and geographical aspects.

The Electronic Government Authority (EGA) provides centralized services to the government departments in Ras Al Khaimah in the following areas: Technical project management, technical services management, training programs, and e-services. The EGA is also keen to develop an IT strategy for the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, and implement it in cooperation with government departments in the emirate, and to promote information security through the application of international security standards in the Government of Ras Al Khaimah Information Centre. The EGA obtained the ISO 27001:2005 certification in the field of information security systems management, to ensure the security and confidentiality of data in the government of Ras Al Khaimah in general, and to increase the confidence of its customers in all sectors of their infrastructure, technology and the procedures adopted by it for the privacy, security and protection of their data and transactions, especially the electronic transactions, in order to achieve their customers satisfaction. The EGA is focused on the development of its e-services in line with customer requirements and to improve the properties of these services and raise the level of their performance. Out of its keenness to establish an electronic community, a training center was established by the EGA in 2009, as an attempt to raise a society that is capable of keeping up with the electronic and digital lifestyle, through the development of scientific and professional competence of the local departments staffs in particular, and the citizens and residents in general.

The training center is equipped with the latest hardware and software technologies that will help in gaining access to modern and high-level training services, and ensure the delivery of information to all trainees easily and accurately, as well as providing a suitable environment for communication between trainer and trainee, and the manner in which the center was designed allows working in groups, and the active participation of all trainees.

As part of its social responsibility, EGA strives to deliver e-education to all segments of society, and to emphasize its commitment to participate in the development of capabilities and qualifications of community members, and in developing the skills that will help them move forward in their daily tasks.

The online portal of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah www.rak.ae is the shared window of all electronic services for the local departments in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, with the participation of some federal institutions that provide their services to all citizens and residents of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in particular, and UAE in general.
