RAKDED Launches the Second Linguistic Lens Competition December 19,2017

The Control and Consumer Protection Department of Ras Al Khaimah Department of Economic Development (RAKDED) launched the second edition of the Linguistic Lens initiative in celebration of International Arabic Language Day.

The initiative aims to preserve the identity of the Arabic language and eliminate spelling mistakes that occur in the commercial banners on the streets of Ras Al Khaimah. Therefore, the Control and Consumer Protection Department is inviting the public to cooperate in monitoring such errors by taking photos of these mistakes and highlighting the error and then send it to the Department through their WhatsApp service (0504321966).

In turn, the Department will review the error by referring the picture to its Arabic language specialist. In addition, the person who observed the mistake will be contacted and presented with a financial reward in recognition to his/her effort and cooperation. 44 participants have interacted so far, while the initiative continues to receive participations until the end of the week.

"The task of preserving the identity of our Arabic language stems from our pride of it and its roots in our national identity and Arab civilization. This task is not limited to specialists or to certain entities as it is a common duty to preserve our language by using it properly and avoid errors. Accordingly, we launched the initiative for the second time to allow all our society members to cooperate and participate," said Ahmed Ali Al Balochi, Director of Control and Consumer Protection Department.

“Our efforts to eliminate spelling mistakes on the streets in our Emirate assert our keenness to provide the right civilized channel for companies and institutions working throughout the Emirate by using the correct form of the Arabic language,” Al Balochi added.
