RAK-DED Raises Student Awareness Regarding Differences between Original and Counterfeit Goods August 28,2018

Ras Al Khaimah Department of Economic Development (RAK-DED) continues its fight against counterfeit goods in the Emirate’s local markets. In its tenth workshop this year, RAK-DED hosted specialists from major brands to discuss the identifying factors of original and counterfeit products at the Ras Al Khaimah Girls Center. With the participation of 54 elementary school students, the specialists highlighted important details that may be overlooked at the time of purchase. Using counterfeit products can put its buyers at risk, hence educating shoppers at a young age can help alleviate these risks while supporting the concept of smart shopping.
Asmaa Al Dahmani, the coordinator for this initiative, confirmed that RAK-DED is keen to protect the companies and brands from copyright infringement and imitation. In a bid to help students shop smarter, the department hosted two major brands in this two-day workshop to present their products in a side-by-side comparison with counterfeit models to highlight what to look for, and what to avoid, when shopping.
