Emirates Writers Union Launches the 2018-2019 Cultural Season in Ras Al Khaimah October 19,2018

 

Emirates Writers Union in Ras Al Khaimah launched the 2018-2019 cultural season, with the presence of Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Special Advisor to H.H. the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, a number of FNC members, department heads, and a number of writers.

Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qasimi hailed the role of the Emirates Writers Union on national level and in Ras Al Khaimah. The Union branch is RAK invests in Arab and Emirati cultural elements in line with the UAE's celebration of the Year of Zayed which celebrates the efforts of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan in supporting culture and writers.

Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed called upon writers to focus on literal heritage by researching, documenting, and enriching it to preserve it and pass it on to future generations. He stressed the importance of collaboration between public good societies in RAK to develop cultural and social work.

The launch was held at Emirates Association for Social Development, and attended by Poet Hanoof Mohammed, Deputy Chairwoman of Emirates Writers Union;   Dr. Mohammed bin Garash, Secretary General of the Union; Writer Mohammed Al Hammadi, Financial Manager, Head of the Abu Dhabi branch; and Poet Fatima Al Momari, Program Director, Head of the Management Body at the Ras Al Khaimah branch.

Writer and poet Habib Al Sayegh, Secretary General of Arab Writers Union and Chairman of the Emirates Writers Union delivered a speech on behalf of  Dr. Mohammed bin Garash. He expressed his utmost gratitude to H.H. Shiekh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah for his continuous support to the Ras Al Khaimah branch. He also thanked the previous leaders of the union such as poet Ahmed Al Asem, who passed the presidency to Poet Fatima Al Momari.

Al Sayegh also stressed his appreciation to the works of Ahmed Al Asem, one of the most prominent poetry figures in the UAE and the Arab World, dubbing the season “Ahmed Al Asem - Al A'b Al Khayal (Father Knight)”.
