Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah: Scientific Research the Cornerstone for Sustainable Development February 25,2019

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Federal Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, inaugurated yesterday the 11th International Workshop for Advanced Materials (IWAM) organized by Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAK CAM), with around 196 delegates from 19 countries taking part over three days.

His Highness stressed that the UAE, under the visionary leadership of his Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; and his Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE's Armed Forces, has devoted its attention and sponsorship to the efforts of scientific research, and encouraged its citizens to embrace research, creativity, and innovation to reinforce its efforts in the field of sustainable development.

His Highness added: “We are delighted with this great international meeting that is part of our agenda in Ras Al Khaimah through which we seek to enhance the role of the Emirate as a hub for leading scientists from all over the world, host the most prominent international events and activities in the fields of science and knowledge, and strengthen our efforts in encouraging researchers globally to provide the latest scientific researches so that we can contribute to their advancement and development through discussions with young researchers in accordance with best practices”.

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi awarded Professor C. N. R. Rao with the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi International Prize for Materials Science in recognition of his achievements in the field of advanced materials. It is worth noting that professor Rao is the Honorary President and Linus Pauling Research Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in Bangalore, India, where RAK CAM’s Sheikh Saqr Laboratory is based. And he has published more than 50 books, written more than 1,600 scientific papers and was elected in the fellowships of most international scientific academies. The US$100,000 worth prize, which is organized by Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAK CAM), comes in recognition of his achievements in the field of advanced materials.
