Mansour bin Zayed visits Ghalilah Desalination Facility in Ras al-Khaimah July 31,2017

RAS AL-KHAIMAH, 31st July, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, today inspected the Ghalilah Reverse Osmosis Desalination Facility in Ras al-Khaimah, which was established based upon the highest international standards for water desalination.

H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed began his tour by viewing the latest technologies used inside the plant, which enabled it to win the "Distinction for Desalination Plant of the Year 2016 Global Water Awards." He also learned about its primary sea water treatment centre, its water filtration system and desalination centre.

His Highness then viewed the technologies used in the facility’s films, high pressure pumps and its pressure adapter system, which significantly reduces its consumption of electricity needed for water desalination.

Sheikh Mansour also viewed the facility’s chemical treatment units and the testing of its output water quality, to meet the standards set by the World Health Organisation before distribution.

At the end of the tour, His Highness listened to an explanation of the future plans of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, FEWA, to face the increasing demand for electricity and water, as well as its projects in partnership with the private sector.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs was accompanied during the tour by Mohammad Saleh, Director-General of FEWA, and other officials.

The Ghalilah Reverse Osmosis Desalination Facility is one of FEWA’s specialised water plants. It was opened in 2015 at the cost of AED310 million, with a daily water production output of 15 million gallons.
