The Ras Al Khaimah Courts Department (RAK Courts) has opened the Sheikh Saud Building to further benefit clientele. Following the recent completion of its construction, the building was constructed with the aim to improve the level of services provided for customers and to increase their levels of happiness and satisfaction with such services. This comes with the announcement of the issuance of 12833 judgments in the past year.
According to H.E Chancellor Ahmed Mohammed Al Khattari, Chairman of RAK Courts: “Based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, RAK Courts have achieved a myriad of successes that are reflective of the natural support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah and President of the Judicial Council of the Emiri Court-- of whom has adopted many initiatives to develop and drive the judicial system to achieve effective and advanced positions in line with the progressive standards housed within the legislative judicial system.
Achievements
H.E. the Chancellor then pointed out that the Department has achieved many accomplishments during the past period, including the successful completion of a case in the One-Day Court following the submission of a report and the registration of the lawsuit by an expert of the Court. Such a feat sets a precedent in the field of judicial work, in addition to the others that include successes in facilitating additional services with the inauguration of the Happiness Building in the southern regions, and the Mobile Court to serve the northern regions of the Ras Al Khaimah. Additional advancements include the separation of the counseling and family court from the headquarters, with the adoption of a full-time office of experts required by the courts to complete the cases quickly while ensuring the rights of the clients.
Al Khattari then added: “The innovations of RAK Courts, including the implementation of the Radar smart phone application, which includes the progress alongside any delay or obstacles for each transaction in order to address and intervene when appropriate. The application is one of the tools that enables the Courts to manage work by following the stages, cases, provision time and implementation period of each stage of a customer service. Such abilities are made possible through the provision of direct access to information as displayed on the screens distributed throughout the Courts’ building. This in turn will measure the rate of cases ruled and adjudicated (or number of sessions) since registration, and provide a daily performance indicator to develop future plans and conduct developments and improvements.”
Completed judgments
Al Khattari continued: “In the past year, the Department issued 12,833 judicial rulings; of which 7,938 were criminal cases with an adjudication rate of 98.81%, and 91.81% in the 4,895 civil and commercial cases. Meanwhile, the Court of First Instance issued 3,635 civil and commercial judgments and 7,938 sentences. The Court of Appeal issued 1,003 civil and appellate verdicts, which were adjudicated by 90.3%, and 1,423 criminal appellate sentences with a rate of 99%.”
Al Khattari explained: “The number of judgments in the Court of Labor reached 1,019 judgments with a 98.59% rate, which was established at the headquarters of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation in Ras Al Khaimah in order to shorten the litigation steps and to reduce the period of labor cases to achieve the strategic directions of the RAK Government to protect workers and individuals. The Family Court issued 375 judgments with a rate of 89.7%, where the separation of the Court from the main building reflected on the privacy of these cases, with a recorded a decline of 20%.”
Judicial Precedent
H.E. the Chairman of RAK Courts then confirmed that the One-Day Court launched by the Department over the past year dealt with 916 cases with a 100% adjudication rate, nor did the Court register any appeals and achieved a 100% satisfaction rate by litigants. The Court’s judgments must also take effect immediately and on the same day they were issued. The Court also succeeded in completing a case after relying on an expert to submit their report on the same day the lawsuit was registered, which is a precedent in the field of judicial work.
